Janice Pilch

The ASEEES Committee on Libraries and Information Resources Distinguished Service Award, which was established in 2010, honors ASEEES member librarians, archivists or curators whose contributions to the field of Slavic, East European and Eurasian studies librarianship have been especially noteworthy or influential. The effect of these contributions may be the result of continuous or distinguished service to the profession, but may also be the result of extraordinarily active, innovative or collaborative work that deserves national recognition.

Honoree: Janice Pilch, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

The ASEEES Committee on Libraries and Information Resources (CLIR) is delighted to announce that Janice Pilch is the recipient of the 2020 ASEEES CLIR Distinguished Service Award. With this award, the committee recognizes her extraordinary contributions to the field of librarianship in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies. We have been the direct beneficiaries of her outstanding scholarly publications, her remarkable service to committees at all levels of ASEEES CLIR, and her authoritative voice that continues to guide many lost souls seeking answers on copyright related matters.

As an internationally recognized scholar and librarian, Janice Pilch’s original works and reviews have appeared in Slavic Review, ASEEES NewsNet, and Slavic & East European Information Resources. With this award, we are also celebrating her twenty-plus years of service at numerous institutions, including the National Security Archive, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Association of Research Libraries, and now at Rutgers University as the Copyright and Licensing Librarian.

In these times of great upheaval and calamity, her continued advocacy and support has been recognized by librarians, scholars, editors, and students from around world.
