Ph.D. Candidate in History at the University of California, Berkely
Yana Skorobogatov is a PhD candidate in history at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Writer in Residence at New York University's Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia.
During her graduate career, she served as Chair of her department's Graduate Association and co-chair of its Russian History Working Group. She is currently the lead organizer for her department's Revolutionary Centenary Graduate Student Workshop.
She spent 2015-2016 in Moscow conducting dissertation research for her dissertation on the history of the death penalty in the postwar Soviet Union.
In her free time, she freelance writes, swims and runs outside, and brainstorms an article-length think piece about her life as a first-generation Russian-American woman.
As Graduate Student Representative on the ASEEES Board of Directors, she will promote programs to assist graduate students interested in pursuing careers beyond academia. She also hopes to engage more of the organization's members in dialogues about issues of economic, racial, and ethnic diversity in our profession.
