About ASEEES
The Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) - a nonprofit, non-political, scholarly society - is the leading private organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about the former Soviet Union (including Eurasia) and Eastern and Central Europe.
An outgrowth of the Committee on Slavic Studies established by the American Council of Learned Societies in 1938, the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies was founded a decade later for the purpose of publishing the American Slavic and East European Review, and in 1960 became a membership organization. In 2010, the association's name was changed to the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies.
ASEEES supports teaching, research, and publication relating to Slavic, East-Central European and Eurasian studies nationally and internationally. Its representatives serve on such bodies as the U.S. State Department's Advisory Committee for Studies of Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the former Soviet Union, and the International Council for Central and East European Studies. The Association is also a constituent society of the American Council of Learned Societies.
